Penghu Overview
Location
Like pearls scattering in the East Sea, the Penghu archipelago is located in the southwest of the Taiwan Strait. When the time of low tide comes, more than one hundred isles appear. Therefore, the number of the total isles varies. At a rising tide, there are, generally speaking, 90 isles [1]. A coastline of over 300 kilometers and gigantic basalt rock formation form the unique geographical scenery of Penghu. The largest city is Magong, located on the largest island, which is also named Magong.
Weather
Summer is hot and humid with significant rainfall. Winter is mild and less dry. In terms of temperatures, Summer averages around 30-32°C (86-90°F), while Winter averages ~15°C (59°F).
Windy Season: October to March, influenced by the 東北季風 (Northeast Monsoon), bringing dry, cold winds from Siberia and Mongolia, making this period windy.
NOTE: In winter, Penghu welcomes everyone with strong winds, imagine it running toward you for a big hug! A windproof jacket will help you enjoy the company of this windy, enthusiastic friend!

Living and Teaching
Living in Penghu, you will frequently see students after school. That also means you can integrate into the community. Living on an island, you can see the sea anytime and it’s convenient to get to a beach. Do not worry about shopping, it still has all necessary modern amenities including a movie theater, supermarkets, Starbucks, and multiple import stores.
Teaching in Penghu is special because many ETAs will teach with not only the local English teacher but also the subject teacher. And students will often have the opportunity to learn about the ocean courses at their schools. Class sizes tend to be smaller with only 5 - 15 students, although larger schools do exist as well.
Penghu’s unique geography, environment, and climate have led to its highly distinctive ecology and history as well as remarkable capacity for tourism development. Penghu County is a popular tourist attraction for visitors from Taiwan, as well as a tourist destination that has attracted numerous visitors from abroad.
